I have lost more than 7 pounds in my first 21 days. I have just started my second 21 days and I no longer feel hungry during the day. Now, I know when meals times come around and how much and what to eat--it's been great. Becasue I can eat a slice of pizza and pasta, I really think I can stick to this as long as I need to. I feel very in control of my eating which is where I want to be. I don't look weird because I am eating the same things everyone else does. I really can't say enough good things about your plan.

I am from an overweight family. When I was thirteen, I was told that the family was moving from Boston to Florida.   I was determined not to move to Florida fat. I saw the move as an opportunity to change my lifestyle. I lost the weight, but not the battle. I have basically been watching everything I eat for the past 30 years.   I had my list of "bad foods."  I always felt guilty when I ate them. It was never ending. When I first read DietDirectives, I was amazed. I kept thinking that I was missing something. It was too simple. Then I set the table with toothpicks for dinner. My family thought I was nuts, but played along. DietDirectives is a simple way to eat normal, good-tasting food, and be in control. After 1 week we no longer had to count our bites; we automatically knew. I have found mixed reactions to bite counting. Some people cannot be bothered. I think it is a simple way to understand how much food the body needs, and how much is too much. Best of all, I find we are happy on this eating plan. I LOVE IT!

From my very first years as a ballet student, I have been exposed to the many myths and constantly evolving beliefs about nutrition and "healthy" eating. As a professional dancer with the Royal Ballet I suffered from Bulimia and now as a ballet teacher and Pilates instructor, I witness first hand the struggles my students have with food.

From my own dieting experiences, I am well aware of how easy it is to become obsessive about counting calories and avoiding certain food groups. I found DietDirectives approach of combining various food groups and maintaining regular eating intervals to make good sense. I believe it would prevent the feeling of deprivation that is so much a part of dieting and also the reason many diets fail.

The issue of water consumption was very interesting to me. I tried to consume 2 litres of water a day in addition to a diet of high water content foods such as salads and vegetables. I have found this difficult and felt it to be against my body's natural need. DietDirectives made me aware of how forced and artificial the excessive water consumption was.

Not only did I find out how much I was eating but I also lost some weight before my lap band surgery.

Having tried the "Fit for Life Diet" where certain food groups must be consumed separately, I was constanly hungry, nauseous and craved high GI simple carbohydrate food. I like the notion of a balanced meal with balanced nutrients derived from various food groups.

I believe that the DietDirectives approach is sensible, logical and aligned with the natural needs of the human body and psyche. This will help clients return to a healthier and safer eating philosophy.

Before DietDirectives I had been food combining, and had been a vegetarian for years. I would also say that having been a dancer by profession most of my life, I definitely have had food issues, as well as disordered eating. The program makes many points that ring true to me personally. There is no question we apply the phrase "good food" and "bad food" to extremes. So much so that we obsess and ultimately end up gaining weight. I appreciated the balance of foods, textures and beverage. I also agree that being consistent in quantity is a must. It all made sense. I also can see where this method of eating has enough awareness that it would help those with eating disorders to begin to heal and take control of their health, along with psychological counseling, of course. This really hit true for me, having had many of my own food issues. But also to see so many dance students going down the road to eating disorders I feel it is something that can make a difference to help people regain control, but also to enjoy eating without so much excess baggage. I found my perception of meals as an event also helped take away the "good/bad" labels and made eating a joy.

Prior to reading DietDirectives I fell into the "good" food "bad" food mentality. I was starting to eliminate carbs and increase protein. I would actually go through periods of time counting calories or carbs or fat and even fiber grams.   It was all very complicated and made me a bit crazy. I would become frustrated and give up after a few days, maybe even having a pizza or something to celebrate. I now realize that eating the DietDirectives way can be so simple, yet satisfying.   I'm eating my favorite "bad" foodsâ just not so much of them. I no longer worry that it might be my last chance to eat, for example, pizza, so I don't feel the need to eat the whole thing. Eating every 4 hours or so keeps me feeling satisfied without feeling stuffed. I now understand full and stuffed are not the same thing. I'm getting good variety and my energy seems more levelâso the nutrition must be pretty good. I also feel freedom from constantly thinking, "what will my next meal be and when will I eat it?"   That's crazy; my mind needs to be on other thoughts. Weight control being about quantity and consistency makes complete sense. The result for me: I feel mentally free from food obsession and my eating behavior now feels very natural and very pleasurable.

I have tried many different diets over the last 20 years and have come to the conclusion that moderation or portion control is key. DietDirectives is very basic nutrition and an easy way of practicing moderation without deprivation and being "present" during the eating event. Friends and family members have dieted with other programs, counting calories and fat grams, journaling every meal, and having success until they reach their goal. Eventually the weight returns. DietDirectives encourages a different way of thinking about food and the way we eat it. Further more, you don't have to buy costly diet foods.   Following the DietDirectives plan eases the stress of dining out because you no longer look for or avoid the "good" or "bad" foods.   You can have it all!â in moderation. DietDirectives is basic (simple) nutritionâ a plan that simplifies your life sensibly and the results are healthier eating and long term weight control.

I was told that eating after gastric bypass would be a lot less. The Diet Directives bite system helped put how much I was eating into perspective.

Before reading DietDirectives I did not realize how often I fell into the traps of dieting: cutting out food groups, not eating except once a day. I was definitely caught up in the "good" vs. "bad" food types. This plan for life makes so much sense! Eating a normal diet in smaller amounts and more consistently has already helped me lose weight and sustain energy â in only 3 days! This is an easy, efficient and effective program for a lifetime of healthy and happy eating!

Before DietDirectives my thoughts about eating were as follows: Eat the right amount of "good" foods (broccoli, carrots, yogurt, etc.), stay away from fatty foods (potato chips, deep fried foods, cookies, etc.) and you will keep unwanted pounds off. I would be okay. I would also try to eat at least 5-6 small balanced meals a day (40 carbohydrates, 30 protein, and 30 fats) to help control weight gain and keep the metabolism running. I focused on serving sizes, reading labels and limiting fat and sodium intake was very important. I found it very challenging to keep up this kind of diet because I limited the types of foods that I would eat. DietDirectives has made me rethink the way that I look at food and eating. I no longer count calories or read labels or try to figure out if I am eating the right percentage of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. I don't limit the foods that make the experience of eating enjoyable. Also, I notice that by following DietDirectives I focus more on what I am eating and take time to taste and notice the texture, and therefore eat less, and eat more slowly. I am very aware that my body needs carbohydrates, protein, and fats but I never really thought about how foods interact with each other when they are combined. It makes sense that paying attention to the texture and taste when you organize a meal will help you select the right types of food for your body.

My doctor told me the surgery wouldn’t work without re-learning how to eat. I’ve lost 73 pounds so far since the surgery but I couldn’t have done it without the Diet Directives bite system. I got so much more out of eating in spite of eating less.

Before DietDirectives, I was obsessive label reader (low fat, carb calories, etc.). Now I eat in a more balanced way without worrying whether my yogurt is made with low fat or whole milk and I find I am much more satisfied. The good/bad food concept seems to be a marketing ploy that uses fear to manipulate the eater rather than encouraging good sense and real nutrition.  I now eat much less but I am much more satisfied. I have lost 20 lbs. Using this common sense approach. The primary word that comes to mind is BALANCEâ balanced meals, consumption, and attitude. This is a great program for a lifetime of eating and not just a quick fix, like the diets I have tried many times. Thank you, Joan and Meredith!

I really am amazed at how the body's food system can be trained just like any other muscle in the body.   The tools are different, but the idea is the same. I am pleased to see how we are free of "fat free" because I never had any faith in these "diet" foods or replacement sugars anyway. I now see the real need to eat more on schedule. I am really pleased to finally be free from the guilt and chains of the unnatural state of food manipulation.

I had no idea how much I was eating until I used Diet Directives. Eating after surgery was so much easier!

Before DietDirectives I was a career dieter. My weight was up and down from week to week. I first did DietDirectives more than a year ago and it changed my relationship with food from that day forward. I now eat to live, instead of always living to eat.   It is very freeing to not have bad and good foods or watch specific food groups like fat and carbs.   I have maintained my recommended weight for a year now.
